Batchelder named as Acting Garfield County Manager

GARFIELD COUNTY, CO – This morning, the Garfield County Board of County Commissioners voted to accept a mutual separation agreement with Garfield County Manager Andrew “Drew” Gorgey, effective at 5 p.m. today.

Deputy County Manager Kevin Batchelder was then appointed as Acting County Manager by the board of county commissioners in a unanimous vote, effective at the close of business Wednesday, July 1. Batchelder and the board of commissioners are developing a letter of agreement providing Batchelder with all the authority vested in the county manager’s position until the next county manager is identified.

Batchelder has been the Deputy County Manager since April of 2014. He has 26 years of experience in public administration, including 18 years as the chief administrator for municipalities, both metropolitan and rural. Kevin has significant experience in budgeting, capital improvement planning, asset management, and revenue diversification/economic development from his municipal background, and extensive public service and community building experience as a local government leader.

“My first goal is to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all the elected officials, county staff and the public,” said Batchelder. “I will be meeting with the commissioners and other elected officials to learn their priorities. I will also be meeting with each of the county’s directors to fully understand all of their functions, priorities and projects. We have a strong management team in place that is dedicated to public service delivery and a high-quality work product. We have a lot on our plate, but I am confident we can meet our goals and objectives.”

Kevin holds the “Credentialed Manager” certification from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), the leading local government professional management association. In 2014, he was recognized for 25 years of local government service as an ICMA member. Kevin is also a member of the Colorado City/County Management Association (CCCMA) and the Association of Colorado County Administrators (ACCA).
