2025 Older Adult Programs volunteer brunch
The 2025 Garfield County Older Adult Programs volunteer brunch took place on April 26 at the Rifle Senior Center. The Old West theme had folks riding in from across Garfield County to spend time with friends and thank those who volunteer.
Meals & nutrition
This program is provided through cooperative efforts of the Garfield County Department of Human Services, the City of Rifle, Town of New Castle, Town of Silt, Town of Carbondale, City of Glenwood Springs, The NW Colorado Area Agency on Aging, RFTA, Valley Meals and More, and donations and client contributions.

Well & Wise
The Well and Wise Program is a collaboration between Eagle, Garfield and Pitkin counties and the Consortium for Older Adult Wellness (COAW). Through our partnership with COAW, eight instructors have been trained to bring community-based chronic disease self-management (CDSMP) and fall prevention classes to adults aged 60 and older in Garfield County. Classes offered include Matter of Balance, Tai Chi for Arthritis, and Geri-Fit. Matter of Balance â 8 sessions, 2 hours each: A Fall prevention program for older adults who are concerned about falling or have experiences a fall, limit activities due to fear of falling, want to improve flexibility, balance and strength, are mobile and able to participate in group problem solving
Tai Chi for health â 8 weekly, one-hour sessions: Evidenced based program developed by medical experts blends traditional Tai Chi with modern health knowledge. It is safe, easy to learn, and designed to improve balance, mobility, breathing, and relaxation. Ideal for older adults seeking gentle movement, stress relief, and improved well being
Geri-Fit â offered one a week for 8 weeks or twice a week for four weeks. Evidenced based health promotion program and chronic disease self-management support program designed exclusively for older adults. This program combines stretching, range of motion, and gait exercises to improve mobility. It also includes balance and stability training for fall prevention, plus cardio activities to support heart health.
Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC)
Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) offered through Garfield County includes senior equipment and services program and the caregiver support program. Approval for programs must take place before a service is provided or equipment or materials are purchased. Contact Kappe Stutsman at 970-625-5282 ext. 3263. Must reside in Moffat, Rio Blanco, or Garfield Counties.
Senior equipment and services program: Individuals may receive up to $600 in funding for equipment and services necessary to maintain safety and independence of the recipient in their home. Services could include:
- Homemaker (light housekeeping, cooking)
- Home maintenance
- Equipment such as glasses, hearing aids, dentures, assistance devices or other health equipment
- Transportation
- Emergency
- Food
Caregiver support program: Respite care for the primary caregiver, care related education for the caregiver, care management services to assist clients and their families to access resources, if not already receiving Health First Colorado, Coloradoâs Medicaid benefits. Up to $1000 in funding to help with respite expenses. Eligible recipients include caregivers 60 years of age or older or caregivers of any age caring for someone 60 years of age or older.
Transportation
The Traveler provides accessible transportation for persons with an assessed inability to access any other Transportation modes that exist in the designated service areas of Garfield County. The Traveler, which is managed and provided by the Roaring Fork transportation Authority (RFTA), offers wheelchair accessible, curb-to-curb, demand responsive, driver-assisted transportation to Garfield County residents. Traveler service is not available within the Town of Parachute. For travel service within Parachute please contact the Parachute Area Transit System (PATS) at (970) 665-1151.
RFTA/City of Glenwood Springs and Town of Carbondale ADA Paratransit Service
Roaring Fork Transit Authority (RFTA) and the City of Glenwood Springs are providing
complementary paratransit service for passengers with disabilities to individuals that reside within 3/4 of a mile of the âRide Glenwoodâ or âThe Circulatorâ fixed-route bus service within Glenwood Springs and within Carbondale. More information can be found on the paratransit website.
Adult protective services
Adult Protective Services investigates allegations of mistreatment against at-risk adults in the County. If you or someone you know is experiencing, or at risk of experiencing physical or sexual abuse, financial exploitation, caregiver neglect, or are neglecting their own needs, please call the 24/7 hotline at 1-844-264-5437 to make a report.

Public assistance
A variety of programs are offered through Garfield County that provide financial public assistance to those who qualify. For more information on the programs offered, visit our Public Assistance page.
Long Term Services and supports (LTSS, sometimes known as Long-term care) is a broad term for many health care programs available to help people who have disabilities or older adults with their daily activities. LTSS includes Home and Community based services or care in a facility such as a nursing home or assisted living. The programs available have different requirements to qualify.
