gov address
A warm community message from Garfield County
We are here!
Garfield County has completed its domain name shift to garfieldcountyco.gov. The .gov domain is only available to U.S.-based governmental organizations, such as federal, state, and municipal governments, as well as police and fire departments, and sheriff’s offices. The move to .gov reassures customers that they are on the correct website and haven’t clicked to a fraudulent site. More information about the benefits of a .gov website are available on the county’s gov address page. We are here to help!
We have simply moved to a better web address! Our new home online is garfieldcountyco.gov.
We strive to provide clear, transparent communications, data and services on our Garfield County website to serve our community.
The website remains the same with all of the pages as they were, it just has a new web address.
Government websites
Why change? Only verified U.S. government organizations can register a .gov domain.
Mission to serve
Using a .gov domain makes it clear that the website’s primary purpose is to serve the public interest and fulfill government responsibilities. It reduces any potential confusion about the organization’s mission and legitimacy in these areas highlighted by the Department of Information Technology at the state of New Hampshire:
- Official status
- Credibility and trust
- Clarity of purpose
- Regulatory compliance
- Protection from impersonation
- Enhanced public service
- Improved visibility
- Consistency and branding
Main street business services
Main Street businesses have valuable information that cyber criminals seek and often have fewer resources dedicated to cybersecurity. County information, services and data is on our official .gov website to assist our small business owners and area residents with assurances that it is safe to navigate and link to our website. Official .gov domains are administered by the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.
Website legitimacy
Malicious actors like hackers and criminals often choose website names impersonating legitimate sites, so users will not be able to distinguish the minor changes to the names. Government agencies signal trusted online sites by using .gov domain names. We invest in secure online experiences, which applies to not only transparency, public safety information, and data delivery, but also election resources and reporting of online election results, as noted by the Alliance for Securing Democracy.
