August 12, 2025

Garfield County has approved $23,000 in third-quarter nonprofit discretionary grants for five local nonprofits. The county allocated $120,000 for its discretionary grants in 2025, and each request is capped at $5,000.

Recipients include:

  • The Grand Valley Park Association, which was granted $5,000 for improvements to its facility’s water system, including extending an irrigation line around the arena. The facility hosts equine events and supports the local western heritage.
  • The Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program received $3,000 toward supporting three of its youth radio programs. These include its live broadcast on KDNK radio, its internship program, and classroom projects in Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, New Castle, and Marble, benefiting more than 670 students.
  • Roaring Fork Public Radio (Aspen Public Radio) was granted $5,000 for its Nonprofit Volunteer Fair, which takes place at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library on August 27.
  • Youthentity received $5,000 in support for its Career Expo, which is held twice a year – first in April in Glenwood Springs and again in October in Rifle. The event, which welcomes high school students from Meeker to Aspen, features 85 local employers, colleges, and training centers.
  • Glenwood Springs Art Council received $5,000 toward its programming, free art events, scholarships for youth art classes, and operating expenses.

  • The grants were approved unanimously, 3-0, by the Board of County Commissioners. The county now has $44,000 remaining in its nonprofit discretionary fund for the remainder of the year.
