Property tax notices mailed in Garfield County
Half payments due March 2 and June 15; full payment deadline is April 30
PRESS RELEASE
February 6, 2026
Garfield County property tax notices were mailed on Feb. 5, and residents can expect them in the coming days. Approximately 31,000 account notices were mailed for expected tax collections of just over $201.3 million, up from $200.4 million last year.
Per statute, property owners may pay taxes in halves or all at once. The deadlines for half payments are March 2, 2026, and June 15, 2026 – the traditional February 28 deadline falls on a Saturday, so March 2 is being honored for timely first-half payment. The deadline for a full payment is April 30, 2026.
Collections for 2025 (due and payable in 2026) are distributed as follows: Kindergarten through 12th-grade school: 45 percent; local college districts: 5 percent; local municipalities: 3 percent; special districts: 28 percent; and the remaining 18 percent is retained by the county.
Property owners can make payments online through Municipay, a secure payment portal linked with the Garfield County Treasurer’s website. Owners may also sign up for autopay notifications. Online payments are subject to a $2 flat fee on electronic checks, or a 2.95-percent fee on debit or credit cards ($3 minimum).
To make a payment by telephone, call our interactive voice response (IVR) line at 970-645-7990. Please have your account number and your payment method ready. If you do not know your account number, please call our office at 970-945-6382. The treasurer’s office will look up your account number and forward you to the autopayment line. Online service fees apply for online IVR payments (autopayment line). For your security, we do not take payments over the phone except through the IVR line.
Property owners may also pay via the drop box downstairs at the Garfield County Courthouse at 109 8th Street, Glenwood Springs, CO, 81601 or over the counter in our office located in Suite 204. If these options do not work, please call to inquire about other alternatives.
To pay by mail, please send payments to Garfield County Treasurer’s Office, P.O. Box 1069, Glenwood Springs, CO, 81602. Please include your account number to guarantee efficient processing. Payments cannot be made at any county building other than the courthouse in Glenwood Springs.
Per statute, property taxes are due each year, whether taxpayers personally receive a tax notice or not. If a tax notice does not arrive in the next two weeks, please contact the treasurer’s office or visit our website for a copy of your tax notice. Homeowners should contact their lenders prior to the due dates to verify the payments have been made.
