Dates to obtain a ballot
October 9-26 - Voters who make a change to an address in voter registration September 11 or later will receive a ballot in a supplemental mailing.
October 26 - Last day to register or submit a registration update and receive a ballot by mail. After this date, voters will need to visit one of the vote centers to pick up a ballot or vote in person.
If you don't receive your ballot by October 13, visit GoVoteColorado.gov to ensure your address is correct.

Outreach to young voters
On September 3, 2026, the Garfield County Clerk and Recorder’s office mailed a letter to all active registered voters ages 17–25 who have fewer than two (2) signatures in their voter registration file. This letter was sent in accordance with Colorado election rule 7.7.14. The letter requests that the voter provide an additional signature, which will be added to their record in an effort to reduce the likelihood of their signature being rejected for signature discrepancy in the upcoming election. This is an official correspondence from the Garfield County Clerk and Recorder; if you receive this letter we encourage a timely response.

Other information
The Garfield County Clerk’s office assists some of the local municipalities and special districts with their elections, but does not conduct the election. If you have questions specific to these elections, please call the municipality or special district directly.
As of July 1, 2020, anyone who applies for issuance, renewal, or correction of a Colorado driver’s license or identification card and who provides documentation of citizenship, is automatically registered (or pre-registered for those under 18 years of age) to vote. For individuals already registered, their existing voter registration is updated to match the information on their driver’s license.

Student election judges
The Student Election Judge Program allows high school juniors and seniors (ages 16-17) to work at polling places, helping them gain experience in democracy while earning money. Participants assist with polling place setup, voter processing, and ballot counting. Students must receive school approval and will be appointed by local election officials. A list of student election judge qualifications is available online.
