The Garfield County Human Services Commission and the Garfield County Board of County Commissioners presented the Garfield County Humanitarian Awards on Monday, April 7, at the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs. The awards honor community volunteers and human services staff for their selfless contributions that make Garfield County communities vibrant, diverse, sustainable, supportive, and safe places to live, work and play. Human Services Commission (HSC) grants for 2025 are now available to area nonprofits. Applications are due to the Garfield County Manager’s office by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9. Operating since 1980, the HSC distributes that portion of county sales tax revenues dedicated to human services needs to eligible applicants. Eligible applicants are nonprofit corporations under section 501(c) (3) of the I.R.S. Code in good standing with the Colorado Secretary of State, which operate and provide human services within Garfield County. Similar government agencies are also eligible. Grant applications

The Garfield County Human Services Commission (HSC) has announced $633,000 in grant awards for local nonprofits. The commission addresses human service needs in Garfield County through education, awareness, and interaction with stakeholders, service providers, and members of the public receiving assistance. The grant money comes from a one-percent dedicated sales tax, which also helps fund 911 services and road and bridge projects in Garfield County. Thirty-three grant requests totaled $843,000, ranging from $10,000 to $75,000. The $633,000 in grant awards spanned from $10,000 to $52,000 between 32 recipients. The 33rd annual Garfield County Humanitarian Awards took place at on April 3 at the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs. Dr. Greg Feinsinger (Lifetime Dedication Award), Lanny Grant (Humble Hero Award), Kelly Keeffe (Pioneer Award), and Soira Ceja (Spirit of Service Award) were honored for their efforts to make Garfield County the wonderful place it is to live.
