Protect your home from this invisible, cancer-causing gas
COMMUNITY NOTICE

Winter is the best time to test your home for radon, an invisible, odorless cancer-causing gas. It seeps into homes from the ground and is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Nearly half of the homes in Colorado have levels of radon above the EPA action limit.
“In the same neighborhood, one house may have a high level of radon, but the house next door may not,” said Garfield County Public Health Environmental Health Specialist Ted White. “You never know, which is why it is always a good idea to test.”
Testing at home is easy. Pick up a free test from Garfield County Public Health at 2014 Blake Avenue in Glenwood Springs or at 195 W. 14th Street in Rifle; or from the Clean Energy Economy for the Region (CLEER) office at the Third Street Center, 520 S. Third Street, Carbondale.
“Winter is the best time to test while homes are sealed,” White added. “Even if you mitigated your home for radon years earlier, it’s good to make sure those mitigation systems are still doing their job.”
Garfield County Public Health information is provided online on the public health radon website.
