Election judges test ballot-counting accuracy prior to Nov. 3 General Election

Garfield County has completed logic and accuracy testing (LAT) for ballots being mailed to registered voters in the November 3, 2026, General Election. A bipartisan team of election judges participated in the process.

The Garfield County Clerk and Recorder’s Office conducts the LAT prior to all elections to ensure that ballot scanning and counts are accurate. This year’s ballots consist of two long pages (front and back or four sides to vote on) and include both state questions and questions specific to the voter’s district.

This year’s meticulous testing covered 47 ballot styles, which were filled out, run through the Clear Ballot tabulation election equipment, and the results were then compared against the election judges’ hand tallies. Each election judge searches for any discrepancy between the hand-marked ballots and the results scored by the ballot-counting devices.

Election judges also listen to audio ballot questions to make sure the wording is identical to the paper ballot for blind or visually impaired voters. The testing, which was open to the public, took place in Election Room 101B of the Garfield County Courthouse on September 14-15, 2026.
