Garfield County honors election judges
Proclaims December 5, 2025, Election Judge Recognition Day
PRESS RELEASE
December 1, 2025
Garfield County has signed a proclamation declaring Dec. 5, 2025, as Election Judge Recognition Day, which honors the judges’ hard work and dedication. Election judges work tirelessly to ensure that our elections operate in a smooth, accurate, and honest manner.
Election judges swear an oath to perform the role’s required duties, including ballot processing, oversight of elections, and fraud prevention. Their commitment and dedication to this electoral process is both inspiring and extremely valuable.
“WHEREAS, we recognize that election judges are on the front line at the vote centers and are the administrators of ballot processing. They are the positive public expression to the community in ensuring Garfield County elections are centered on accuracy, integrity, and security for all citizens to exercise their right to vote freely,” the proclamation reads.
The county recognized 53 election judges in the proclamation, including two student election judges (a third student also trained to be an election judge), all of which participated in the 2025 Coordinated Election, which was certified on Nov. 25 by the canvass board. The full list of judges honored is available on the Garfield County website.
“I have shared the certified results in paper form, and they are posted on our website,” said Garfield County Clerk and Recorder Jackie Harmon. “As our elections continue to be challenged, and the processes are under scrutiny across the land, I become more and more passionate about this proclamation. It honors the people who are behind the scenes: the election judges of Garfield County, who take time from their day-to-day schedules to commit to our elections.
“From training to logic and accuracy testing, to audits, and the opening and closing of our vote centers, and the signature verification, processing of our ballots, adjudication, tabulation, and the canvass, it’s all conducted and overseen by bipartisan teams of election judges,” she added.
The Board of County Commissioners approved the proclamation unanimously, 3-0.
“I want to add a heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you,” said Commissioner Mike Samson. “We live in the greatest nation that’s ever been on the face of the Earth, and it’s because of people like you that it remains that way. We must have free and fair elections.”
“It is democracy up close, and your efforts are truly appreciated,” added Commissioner Perry Will.
