Region 5 Opioid Abatement Council announces new funding opportunities
Grant proposals are being accepted for youth programming and treatment, recovery services through October 27
COMMUNITY NOTICE
October 20, 2025
The Region 5 Opioid Abatement Council (R5OAC), representing Eagle, Garfield, Lake, Pitkin, and Summit counties, is advancing its mission to address the opioid crisis with a series of impactful programs and a new round of funding opportunities.
As one of the 19 regions in Colorado receiving opioid settlement funding, R5OAC continues to lead efforts in prevention, education, and recovery across the region.
Strategic plan and program highlights
All Regional Opioid Abatement Councils are required to submit two-year strategic plans. For the 2023/24 strategic plan, R5OAC funded initiatives across three core programs:
Mobile harm-reduction services:
Free naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and other harm-reduction resources are available at various locations throughout the region or by delivery through High Rockies Harm Reduction. This organization is dedicated to combatting overdose deaths, reducing the spread of infectious diseases, and minimizing the negative consequences of substance abuse through evidence-based programming and peer support.
Anti-stigma and education campaign:
The Community Compass campaign aims to destigmatize substance use disorders, addiction, and treatment. By sharing video stories of local community members who are living lives of recovery, the campaign demonstrates that recovery is achievable. Additionally, it serves as a resource hub, connecting individuals in the five-county region to addiction, recovery, mental health, and harm-reduction programs and services.
Regional data dashboard:
To measure the impact of R5OAC’s efforts, a comprehensive dashboard was developed to monitor the reach and effectiveness of funded programs and track key outcomes related to opioid reduction. The dashboard also provides insights into the broader narrative of opioid use, including contributing factors and outcomes for both adults and young people.
Upcoming funding opportunities
The council is pleased to announce its next set of priority areas and funding opportunities for the 2025/26 grant period. Proposals are now being accepted for youth programming and treatment, and recovery services. Interested organizations and individuals are encouraged to submit their proposals by 4 p.m. on Monday, October 27.
