Suicide prevention training in Glenwood Springs

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop takes place April 1-2

PRESS RELEASE
March 12, 2025

The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Garfield County and SpeakUp ReachOut are offering a free two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. The Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and how to work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.

The two-day workshop takes place April 1-2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library, with lunch provided.

Over the course of the two-day workshop, ASIST participants learn to:

  • Understand the ways that personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions
  • Provide guidance and suicide first-aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs
  • Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it
  • Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community
  • Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention, including life-promotion and self-care
  • More information and registration can be found at SpeakUp ReachOut.
