Community Corrections
Residential services
Garfield County Community Corrections is a sentencing alternative for individuals with felony convictions. It can be used in lieu of prison sentences or as a transition option for those who were in prison. Community Corrections creates a rehabilitation option for offenders.
We provide services such as, life skills training, counseling, financial planning, employment search, and much more. Community Corrections serves a variety of individuals; offenders can be directly sentenced from the court to Community Corrections, or they can be sentenced from prison to help their transition into society. An offender can also be placed in Community Corrections if they are on probation or parole and need additional supervision.
The residential component to Community Corrections is located just outside of Rifle, Colorado near the Garfield County Airport. The program has a total of 60 residential beds and houses both male and female clients. Both Community Corrections beds and work release beds are available at this location. Clients assigned to the residential program are required to stay there unless approved by staff to attend work, treatment or other approved activities.
Non-residential services
Non-residential services are an advanced placement for direct sentence Community Corrections clients. Those clients that have been sentenced to Community Corrections directly by the courts may be eligible to advance into the non-residential program, where they will have the opportunity to live and work in the community, but still be under supervision of the Community Corrections program and staff.
This process allows for clients to step down their supervision levels and increase their personal responsibilities as the near the end of their sentence. This process is not available for all clients as the different sentences have different options for release preparation.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)
Garfield County Community Corrections has a zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of sexual assault, sexual abuse, and/or sexual relationships, all of which will not be tolerated.
